Institute of Pathophysiology
Head: Arno Helmberg

Pathophysiology is the science of disease mechanisms and drug targets in the human body. In research as well as in teaching, our aim is to better understand the cellular and molecular basis of disease and pharmacotherapy and to make this understanding accessible to our students.

Currently, our research is directed by Stephan Geley and focuses on cell cycle control. Our former Head, Reinhard Kofler, continues to work on apoptosis in leukemia.

We spend a lot of time and effort on teaching medical students, for whom pathophysiology is an essential subject. Arno Helmberg is providing extensive lecture notes, most of which are available in German and in English. In addition, we contribute to all levels of studies (Bachelor, Master, and PhD) in Molecular Medicine and Biology.
